Money is one of the most talked about topics in the Bible, and taxation is very much a part of this discussion. Tax is clearly defined as, “a charge usually of money imposed by authority on person or property for public purposes.” (Tax) The Bible has very clear examples of paying taxes and who they should be payed to. Luke 20:19-26 says, “…Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” But he discerned their craftiness and responded to them, “Show me a denarius. Whose face and name does it have?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. So he told them, “Then give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” So they couldn’t catch him before the people in what he said. Amazed at his answer, they became silent.” This verse sums up taxation in Biblical terms very well. Take a one dollar bill for example it very clearly states The United States of America. This example goes right back to Luke 20 we should give the government what is rightly theirs through the means of taxation. Romans 13:1-7 is a different take on taxes, “Every person must obey the leaders of the land. There is no power given but from God, and all leaders are allowed by God. The person who does not obey the leaders of the land is working against what God has done. Anyone who does that will be punished.” The Bible talks about how God allows leaders into positions, such as President. Even though we might not like the current President or other leader we still have a Biblical obligation to pay taxes.
The Bible does not talk about what the government should provide the citizens and tax payers. In the United States, we have a federal tax code that is roughly 75,000 pages long. The states each have their own tax codes and within each state certain cities and towns have other taxes. The tax system in the United States is probably one of the most complex in the world. It is easy to say simplify the tax code into just a few pages and go from there, but the reality of that working is very slim. For that to occur we would have to restructure the entire country and the monetary cost would be too great for the economy to withstand.
When looking at taxation and applying Biblical principles it really is not that hard. We are told to give to the government what is theirs and give to God what is His. We are privileged to live in a free country, but to be free we have the responsibility to pay those who run the country to maintain that freedom. The tax revenue collected from citizens goes to pay for an army, a police force, and a judicial system, to name a few. These three simple organizations are some of the keys to maintaining the freedom we currently have. To maintain these organizations taxes must be collected and as a citizen living in the country we have the responsibility to pay for our share in the freedom.

Question 5: Aldina would like to clarify her understanding of a code section recently enacted by
Congress. How should she evaluate these authorities to make a conclusion? What other factors should
she consider?
The legislative branch of the US government has the powers to enact legislative laws. Our
constitution ( Article 1, Section 1) the federal government grants the powers to the legislative
branches. The organization of Codes was originally created by congress in 1926. Codes are
Usually consolidation and codification by subject matter of general and Permanent laws of the
United States.
The best way for Aldina to clarify an enactment of new Code section is to research Code
titles, chapters, parts and paragraphs. And once the enacted Code is researched Aldina ought
to look into if the Code title is positive or non-positive, a positive law title is where the
Code has Enacted into a law. A non-positive law title of a Code consist of an editorial
arrangement of federal statutes . Code contains general and permanent laws of the United
States, temporary laws such as appropriation acts and special laws are not included in the Code.
The office of the Law Revision Counsel in the United States House of Representatives is
responsible for preparing new editions and supplements to the US Code and title.
There are three editions of the United States Code:
1. The United States Code (U.S.C)
2. United States Code Annotated (U.S.C.A)(WestLaw)
3. United States Code Service (U.S.C.S)(Lexis)
The United States Code (U.S.C) is the official Code and it is published every six years with the
Annual cumulative supplements. The U.S.C list the text of the statue and for a better research
purposes it is recommended to use the annotated Code (U.S.C.A) edition because this edition
contains the statue language and it makes reference to other helpful primary and secondary
sources. I also like to mention that State Codes are published in the same manner as to the
federal Codes and it has different versions of Code as well.
The way that Aldina would evaluate the authority and their conclusion is the basic and full
understanding of the steps of our federal law-making process. And how an idea transforms and
becomes a Code or a Statue.
In our democratic system a Code has to be presented and approved by the House of
Representatives which is composed of 100 Senators and435 Congress members. Both the
Senators and the congress members are voted in representing their State and constituents.
Therefore Aldina should have less doubts and more trust and faith in our leaders and the
branches of our government ” First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayer,
intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all who are in high
positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quite life, godly and dignified in every way “
( Timothy 2:1-1).
Finally; There are other factors involving the decision of Code enactment, for instance the long
term benefits or the vision that the government has for our nation and with that being said some
Code enactments might not make great sense at our present time but it will for our future.
