A reactor and a condenser is used for the production of methanol as shown in the figure below.The reactor outlet stream flows at 450 mol/min and contains 65.1 mol% H2, 24.7 mol% CO and the balance CH3OH (v). This stream enters the condenser to condense most of the methanol. The liquid methanol (n3, CH3OH (l)) is withdrawn as the product from the condenser. The gas stream leaving the condenser (n4) contains CO, H2 and 0.3 mol% uncondensed CH3OH (v) and is recycled to combine with the fresh feed.
